Very cold leaving Flagstaff this morning as I took 89 southbound to enjoy the sunrise in the red rock country of Sedona, Arizona.  The ride through the pine mountains around Flagstaff, down Oak Creek Canyon and into Sedona is another nice ride and at this time of the morning I had the road to myself.  The sunrise, the countryside and a winding road - living the dream.
Everyone likes the flavor of mesquite BBQ but how many of you know where that wood comes from.  This is a mesquite bush in Cottonwood, Arizona.  They do grow into trees but in this area you see mostly bushes.
Starting the descent out of the cooler weather and into the heat, just outside of Yarnell, Arizona.
Soft shoulder, how about NO shoulder.
My kind of road.
I thought I would meet up with I-10 and just slab it back home but that would be like ending a great meal with a big steaming bowl of - (well, you get the idea).  So I turned right off the 60 and headed for Parker, Twenty-nine Palms, Apple Valley, Valencia, and home.  I never spent one second on any freeway and although it was another long day - it was the only way to end the ride.
Seen on the road to Twenty-nine Palms
We saw both these things (or forms there of) in the middle of Nevada going across 50.  Where there is a raised piece of land, rail road tracks in this case, people come to make words out of rocks; this goes on for miles.  The fence with all the shoes hanging from it is usually a tree with shoes hanging from it.  Around here there are no trees though, so this left over corner of a broken down fence line was used.  This fence and the trees I've seen are in the middle of nowhere.
One hundred miles to go.
Up with the sun, gone with the wind.
Living the dream....
